Description

On Christmas Eve 1626 Mary arrived at Feldkirch in Tyrol; in spite of her fatigue and the intense cold, she remained in the Parish Church from eight o'clock in the evening until three o'clock in the morning absorbed in prayer.

The Scene

The village of Feldkirch in Tyrol is on the border of Italy and Austria.

Mary Ward and her companions had passed through the alps and come to this village on their way to Munich.

The little church came as a huge sanctuary for them.

She had left Rome with her work in ruins and no recognition from the Pope or the Cardinals.
